What do you do after the movies? You look for a quick bite without having to fight the crowd. After running into very good friends in the movies, we decided to go out for a burger. One of my favorite places to go for comfort food is "Elijah Churchill's." We called ahead to find out that we would have no wait. Upon arriving I ordered a "Shock top Pumpkin ale." The place was very quiet for a Friday at 9:30 but who was I to complain. Our waitress served up drinks which my wifes glass of "Shiraz" was a bad glass.  The waitress quickly replaced it with a glass from a fresh bottle. I have the Portobello burger which was a 10oz burger topped with grilled onions, a portobello cap and swiss cheese. Seved on a kaiser roll that was stale. The burger was very good and the cottage fries were predictable. Another person in our party had the half chicken. When she was finished, that chicken didn't have a chance. She is what I call a "Bone sucker" It gave her great comfort to eat that chicken. We did not stay for dessert. The total bill for four people with 3 beers and a grey goose on the rocks was
$112.00 plus tip.
Sgt. Churchill’s Baked Clams

Neraki...Huntington village. Upscale Greek food, delicious. Casual atmosphere - jeans ok. Recommend the grilled octopus and the Bronzino, although everything we ate was a hit. The owner and our waiter were extremely accommodating and attentive.

Back at you with "The Dish With Dean"  This past Saturday amid the chaos of Hurricane Sandy, it was my Wife's Birthday. I invited 14 of our friends to join us at Jellyfish in Centerport. I want to say  Kudos to the staff and chef at Jellyfish. James put together the most amazing menu for us. We started our party with some some sushi on the table. As we began to sit down out comes "Garlic Bread Soup" served in a shot glass. I could have drank this by the gallons. Next we had my favorite Oysters. I was thinking he was serving us a tasting menu and to my surprise, it never ended. Out came the Lobster Salad and a Tuna Salad that people who did not eat any fish were loving it. OK so now we had a few Seafood Towers and along come some Seared Tuna on a bed of White bean Puree and Sliced Olives. Next we had the Duck and Farro. Very much like Risotto but a bot more course. Next came the famous Lobster Cantonese style along with Filet Mignon. Our staff, including bartenders by name were Joe, Dylan, Brandon and our bar man Anthony. A real must have is the Basil Martini. and Don't forget the upstairs crew at the Bar, Jeff and Steven.

Rothmann's Steakhouse - East Norwich, NYThe Dish With Dean had the opportunity to visit Rothmann's in East Norwich last Saturday night. The company was amazing and so was the Pinot Noir we drank. As for the food it was nothing you needed to go to Rothmann's for. The bone in Ribeye which 3 of us had was not cooked properly and not very good. The skirt steak which I love charred on the outside but medium rare on the inside was charred all the way through. The creamed spinach was a bit pasty as was the mashed Potatoes. The mushrooms were great. Service was and always has been very attentive. Going to only offer this 1 1/2 stars.

Happy Thanks Giving to all and please don't burn the bird.

Another post from The Dish With Dean. Started our day off Sunday with 2 great friends. Plan was to do as we always do. Go into the city and wing it. We started by driving into the city and sat in traffic. But more time to spend with great friends. Got a great parking spot on the street by Hogs and Heffers. Went to take a walk along the High Line. We had never been there before and we walked along the High Line from 12th street to 33rd street. I found the perception of Manhattan from that height very different. After walking back toward the car we had to decide on the most important thing. Do we stay in the city for dinner or stray away. We chose to go into Astoria which by the way if anyone has not been, the place is hopping. We went to a place called Crave. A local Greek dive on 31st ave and 36 street. This is a place for triple D to come and visit. The Food was fresh and delicious. We had babaganoush and some fresh warm Pita to start and a small serving of Hummus. Both were very good and paved the way for what was next to come. I have not ordered a real Gyro is quite sometime but I didn't see Chicken Gyro so I ordered a regular Gyro platter. At the table we had 2 orders of Greek Bowls and a Pork Donor Platter. All 4 dishes came out looking great and the food was amazing. All sauces are homemade and the yogurt sauce added a nice touch to everything. I could easily go back here just so I can have the Greek bowl or any other bowl varieties they offer. Check it out!

So the night begins with "The Dish with Dean" Tonight was the opening of Jelly Fish. A long awaited restaurant owned by Ralph Colamussi. We started our journey and I do mean journey with a simple Caesar salad. Simple but unique. Next came 2 types of sashimi. One white fish with a citrus and orange tang and the other Salmon tar tar with a soy vinaigrette. Accompanied by a Japanese peach to clean the pallet. Then we had 2 types of oysters from the west coast that were amazing. All the while being attended to by people asking if we need anything. We finished the meal with our very own version of surf and turf being an amazing Lobster Cantonese style with crunchy but delicate veggys and Pork belly. That dish was so amazing that we could have just had that. Accompanying that was the duck that paired with a delicious Malbec, was to die for. We will have to leave the dessert to your imagination cause the choices are just too many. All I can say is that the cappuccino came in a huge bowl not a cup and the port with the chocolate combo was to die for. 5 stars for food as well as service and we will be back once again to test the waters on October 13. Once again this is the "Dish With Dean"
